Announcing Rocky Mountain Dance of Colorado

The board has met via zoom each month since we suspended dancing. RMSDC Board has been working on a 501(c)(3) entity. We have now legally changed from a nonprofit Social Club status 501(c)(7) to a nonprofit Charitable status 501(c)(3). Promoting, teaching, and providing dancing events falls under categories such as the arts, education, and promoting public well-being thus qualifying as a charitable purpose. Benefits to our organization would include eliminating a separate membership dues requirement and opening up the possibility for donations to be tax deductible. Memberships will be still be with the Denver Turnverein and RMSDC will offer discount admissions in order to support the Turnverein and to keep the floor rental rates at club prices.

The old Rocky Mountain Swing Dance Club and board have been legally dissolved, and the name of our new charity is Rocky Mountain Dance of Colorado. Furthermore, we have registered the business trade name Rocky Mountain Swing Dance of Colorado (RMSDC) with the state of Colorado.

Dancing News Update

When will we get back to dancing?

Currently the Denver Turnverein is ONLY open to private lessons. RMSDC has to wait till the Denver Turnverein gives us the "green light" to open.

What is the RMSDC Board doing in the meantime?

The board has met via zoom each month since we suspended dancing. RMSDC Board has been working on a 501c3 entity. This is a change from our current nonprofit Social Club status (501c7) to a nonprofit charitable status (501c3).

Turnverein Update

The Turnverein held their annual meeting via Zoom July 18th. Kimberly Connolly was elected to the Turnverein board of directors. She joins Steve Eschenbach and Art Abington as RMSDC representatives on the board.

The new Turnverein board met August 21st and elected Art Abington as president. The board agreed to move forward with activities that can definitely be held now under Denver and Colorado State business guidelines for COVID-19. Two committees have been meeting this month and will shortly be announcing their plans. While we can’t say anything definite until after the Turnverein’s August board meeting the committees have been discussing expanding the Turnverein’s private lessons, a membership sale, outdoor social gatherings, a donation drive, and expanding the use of the Turnverein for non-dance events. The board is frequently reviewing business guidelines from Denver and Colorado as to when it will be possible to open back up for dancing.

What Can You Do to Help?

Memberships

RMSDC strongly urges our dancers to renew their memberships. Emails will be going out reminding members to renew. Consider renewing now even though we aren’t dancing to help sustain the Turnverein.

Donations

Those who can and want to should consider donating. Donations to the Turnverein are eligible for tax deductions in many cases. A suggestion was made that many dancers may want to donate the price of one dance a month. One dancer we know of is donating their entire monthly dancing budget.

Lessons

Seek out our instructors. We know of some members taking private lessons via Zoom with some instructors. Many of our instructors rely on their dance instruction income.

Web Meetings

Let us know if you are interested in an online RMSDC Dancers Zoom. Some other dancing groups in town are doing those.
